Our next Playgroup and Preschool Open Day is Saturday 31st October. More details here.

Area School Enrolment

Wā Ora’s main intake is into our preschool as children turn three. We do not often have places for new families to start in our primary or high school, but we welcome new children when we are able to.

Preference is given to applications meeting the below criteria. Allocation of places will be made in the following order:
  • Tamariki enrolled at Wā Ora Montessori Preschool when they turn six years of age.
  • Children aged six years and older enrolled in an alternative authentic* Montessori school, where they have attended continuously, five days a week since the age of three years, including 9am-3pm, from the age of five years.

*An early learning service or school will be deemed to be authentic when it uses only Montessori philosophy to determine its programme, and if the child’s classroom head kaiako (teacher with the child the majority of each day) has face-to-face Montessori qualifications for the age group they teach. Qualifications for all ages (0-18) include required observations and supervised practice teaching, and supervised practice with materials/activities for a minimum of 150 hours (As defined in Montessori Journey to Excellence (MJ2Ex), pg 12, 2020).

  • Children of permanent staff members.
  • Siblings of tamariki students enrolled in Wā Ora’s preschool, and siblings of preference students enrolled in Wā Ora’s area school.
  • Returning ākonga who have attended Wa Ora’s preschool and/or area school for at least three consecutive years.

Applications which do not meet the criteria for ‘Preference’ will be classified as ‘Non–Preference’. Non-preference places are allocated in the order received, when we have a space available.

Families are welcome to submit an expression of interest online. Please complete the ‘Preference’ form if your child meets the above criteria. Alternatively please complete the ‘Non-Preference’ form to add your child to the current year’s waiting list, which is valid for this calendar year.
