About Montessori

The Montessori education philosophy was developed more than a century ago by Italian doctor and educator, Dr Maria Montessori (1870-1952). Today, it has been adopted by more than 22,000 schools around the world and is increasingly recognised as being at the forefront of meeting children and young adult’s developmental needs.

Dr Montessori based her philosophy on 45 years of observation and work with children. She believed that a child’s natural curiosity would lead them to become a self-motivated, joyful learner when placed in a stimulating, carefully prepared environment that allowed them to explore their individual interests.

The Montessori approach teaches children to observe and evaluate what’s happening around them. It introduces them to the joy of learning at an early age and provides a framework in which intellectual and social discipline go hand-in-hand. It encourages the development of concentration, self-esteem, self-discipline and independence. It provides a balance of tactile and cognitive learning, and a reverence for the arts and sciences, and gives your child an unparalleled foundation for a lifetime of success.
