Looking Back with Gratitude

Ava Szabo - Principal

Kia ora e te whānau

As we reach the end of another school term, it is a good opportunity to reflect back on all we have accomplished.

Our term was filled with creativity, energy, connection and growth. It has been a privilege to watch our tamariki and rangatahi explore, perform, move and celebrate together.

One of the highlights of the term was our Primary production, The Dream Factory. What an amazing and imaginative experience it was for everyone involved. From the first rehearsals to the final performances, our tamariki brought the story to life with enthusiasm and confidence. A special thank you goes to our drama and music kaiako Lottie and Michael, and to every staff member, parent helper and student who contributed time, creativity and energy to make the production such a success. It was a true celebration of collaboration and the Arts in our school.

Another special moment was the Rainbow Disco for our Primary and Preschool tamariki, organised by the PTA. T2 was filled with colour, music and laughter as we all danced the evening away. We are so grateful to the PTA for getting this event off the ground and for our senior rangatahi in Kawakawa and Tāwari for creating an atmosphere of fun, inclusion and celebration for our younger students and their whānau.

In another memorable school wide event last week, ākonga from across the school travelled into Wellington to take part in the Te Wiki o te reo Māori parade, our younger preschoolers participated in their own hikoi within our local area. For both groups it was a powerful experience to see our students standing together, celebrating te reo Māori and sharing in a country-wide expression of language, culture and identity. Moments like these remind us of the importance of honouring and upholding Te Tiriti within our school community.

There were also many sector specific events offered to our ākonga during the term.

Our senior choir travelled to Napier to perform with another school. Performing together offers our rangatahi a special opportunity to grow in confidence, build friendships and share their love of music beyond Wā Ora. Thank you to Michael and Tanya who made this trip possible.

There has been a lot happening with junior sport this term. Our tamariki have enjoyed participating in a number of sports festivals, including gymnastics, futsal and dodgeball among others. A big thank you to our Primary Sports Coordinator Samantha for organising these events. These programmes give children the chance to develop skills, teamwork and a lifelong enjoyment of sports and physical activity.

As always, none of these experiences would be possible without the dedication of our staff, the support of our whānau and the wonderful spirit of our school community. Thank you for the part each of you plays in making our school such a special place.

I hope the upcoming break brings rest, connection and time outdoors for every family. We look forward to seeing you back next term.

ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS

Science and Technology Fair

A big congratulations to Advaith and Aarohi, who recently represented Wā Ora at the Science and Technology Fair with their project, “Golden Grass - Turning Waste into Animal Feed.”

Advaith and Aarohi put a great deal of preparation into their project, including developing their materials, creating their display and practising how to confidently present their work and answer questions from the judges.

It was wonderful to see the skills they have developed through opportunities such as our Coffee House sessions put into practice beyond the classroom.

Ka rawe, Advaith and Aarohi! We’re very proud to see you representing Wā Ora.
