Our Approach

At Wā Ora Montessori, we aim to give your child an innate love of learning that will stay with them throughout their life. To do this, we provide a learning environment that meets the individual needs and interests of the whole child.

Our specially prepared classrooms are designed to support children at every stage of their development. They learn to work independently but always within a wider community that includes classmates of differing ages and abilities, usually within a three year age range. This allows children to learn from each other and because of each other. Younger children are exposed to the exciting work of older students while the older child has a chance to reinforce their knowledge by demonstrating their work. Older children become important role models. The calm and orderly environment allows children to learn at their own speed, according to their own capacities and in a non-competitive atmosphere.

The Whole Child

The teachers at Wā Ora Montessori believe in educating and nurturing every aspect – intellectual, physical, emotional and social – of your child. This holistic learning journey leads to young adults sure of their ability to contribute positively to the world.

During your child’s time at Wā Ora we’ll help him/her develop the skills of independent exploration and discovery, concentration, motivation, self-discipline and a love of learning. We’ll nurture their self-confidence and personal creativity. They will be supported to become a self-directed learner, able to ask their own questions and solve their own problems.

Opportunities to practise newly acquired social skills – grace, courtesy and respect for others – occur naturally within everyday class life. This allows the positive aspects of the child’s personality to assert themselves and become habit.
